Summary: Idiot proof
Comment: I have access to a Flip as part of my job. I've tried using it for a week and here's what I've
taken away from the experience. Its about easier to use than a digital still camera. Push the
power button, then hit the red button when you're ready to record. The menues are minimal- it only
sets the date and time and whether or not the record light goes on and whether the camera will beep.
I can easily hand this off to anyone (under 30 years old) and they'd be taking video with ease.
This is especially nice if you want to let the kids have a try.

Uploading video is a
breeze, I don't even bother with the included software, just connect the device and navigate to the
"DCIM" folder on it and pull the movies off from there. Simple. I don't like the "flip out" USB
connection since its a rigid piece that will not easily "sit" next to your computer... you may end
up bending it in at an odd angle which can not only damage the Flip's USB, but your computer's USB
port as well. Why this is considered a signature of the device is rather troubling since its the
poorest design element of the whole thing. Nevermind if you have vertical USB ports (or ports on
the back of your iMac!). In short, get a USB extension cable (not included in the package). />
My main complaints come from the technical side. While it may be "idiot" proof, there's no
room to grow with technical know-how. No way to tweak the image quality in-camera. And the lens is
what really kills me. Its a fixed focus lens, which means that from about arms length out it does
ok, but any closeup work and the picture looks very cheap. I have a digital camera that captures
better quality images, and looks better when you zoom in (the zoom on the Flip is pretty weak). />
The flip is little more than a toy camera. It takes OK video, has a good amount of
on-board storage (which you cannot expand or swap out) and takes good SD quality video in decent
light. The sound is ok, but since its mounted right there in the camera you don't have any option
about what it hears. If you need a bare bones camera that just about anyone with three fingers can
use, this is it. If you have any real desire to capture quality sound and video and you have a
realistic budget you should look elsewhere.

Summary: Pleasently suprised
Comment: I had done a bit of research before purchasing this one. I wouldn't say the video quality is
"great" but what can you expect for $130. If I was going to buy another one, I would shell out the
extra money to get the HD. All in all, this has been a great little video camera. It is extremely
easy to use and to download the videos. The software is included with the camera and automatically
loads when it is connected to your computer. I also really like the email capability. You
basically just click on the email button, type in email addresses and drag the videos you want to
include in to the window. The recipient receives a link to click on and watch. Very cool. The
only thing that concerns me is how secure it is. I am not sure I want some freak clicking and
watching my children in their school video.

Summary: Nice, but a few wrinkles..
Comment: I bought this a while back, and it is what it advertises itself to be. I have no problem with the
product. The one caveat that I would mention is this... on my PC I use a wireless USB module. It
seems as though the USB connection to the FLIP conflicts with that. It usually requires that I
reboot the PC and my wireless router (with the FLIP unplugged) in order to get my wireless internet
working again. It's just a toy, and it's fun. Just be aware that it may cause some conflicts and be
ready to deal with it. Otherwise, the product is rock solid - I've dropped it twice and it still
works!

Summary: I really like this camera so far -- very easy to set up and use...
Comment: I've always been more of a "still photographer" and not a great one at that. Videos always sort of
intimidated me.

Yet, when I was a kid, my dad used to tape record our family
conversations during Christmas celebrations and those recordings became priceless. I figured that
this was an easy way to replicate that plus have video.

The camera is smaller than my
cell phone -- and frankly a lot easier to use than my cell phone. It is a piece of cake to set up
and only took minutes from opening the box to trying it out. Nice touch including 2 duracell
batteries rather than el-cheapo varieties or none at all.

It is a very minimalist
camera so it is pretty easy to get going... push the up arrow to zoom in and the down arrow to zoom
out. Easy to replay what you have just shot and delete what you don't like.

I had no
problems getting the software to work on my XP system and viewing/transferring the videos to my
computer.

My only complaint is that the sound, overall is a bit dim so part of what I
wanted this camera for -- to capture spontaneous conversation -- is not optimal.
/>However, video quality is decent -- especially for what I am using it for. Not like I'm going to
be filming hockey games any time soon. On my husbands' urging, I have ordered up the HD version
which is just a bit more money and we'll see if that makes a difference -- I'll update this review
accordingly.

So far, I'm happy with the camera. The camera is truly idiot proof --
I'm the idiot that has proven that! I only wish I had had something this simple and easy years ago
when our boys were younger. Ah well, better late than never -- knowing my kids, they'll keep us
supplied with endless material for years to come ;-)

Summary: Very poor in low light
Comment: The video in low to normal lighting comes out with black artifacts all over. Also, when downloading
to the computer, my wireless connection goes out which is annoying and strange. Not sure if I am
keeping this or not. Fairly disappointed in it. It is easy to use, and transfer files over to
computer though.

Update: Had it for two days now, and on the second day, the computer
no longer recognizes it. Complete junk.
