Customer Rating: Summary: Short Shooting SpanComment: Upon receipt of this new Olympus (point & shoot) SP800 UZ camera, I was thrilled at the potential
that it posed offering 14 mega pixels and a 30x zoom.
I own several Olympus digital cameras, the last of which was the SP510 UZ with a 7.1 mega pixels and a 10x optical zoom and each time I am anticipating the upgrade to my inevitable SLR purchase. My disappointment is primarily with the short life span
of the required lithium ion battery and the lack of a view finder in lieu of the LCD screen (which may be the reason for short battery life.
I ordered with the camera several packs of the lesser expensive replacement batteries and
have given them the "Maximal" charge recommended to operate fully powered and still they run out before I've shot less than my 4GB SDHC memory card is 1/3 used. I've also purchased an 8Gb card that hasn't seen the light of day.
Having also purchased the recommended charger which thankfully works great as the batteries are forever needing to be charged, however if I were nowhere near a charging source I would be pissed with this overall setup.
After much turmoil I've decided to keep the keep the unit because of it's price point and the potential to make an
occasional fantastic capture.
Overall it's hard to determine if it's the camera or the batteries, oh yeah the Olympus battery offers a few additional shots and I'm not yet sure if it's worth the difference in cost.Customer Rating: Summary: best camera I've owned!Comment: This camera takes amazingly clear pictures! Esspecially outside. The HD video is spectacular, however, you do need the proper video card setup on your computer to view them once you upload and save them. I have been an amature photographer for the past 7 years and upgraded from an 8MP Digital SLR to this camera. And I have to say, it's the best choice I could have made. I love Olympus. Their cameras are built to last. I was looking at Nikon first but this camera was half the price for all the same features. It is compact enough for vacations or everyday use. The only downside I have is that the battery doesn't last as long as I expected so I recommend buying a second battery. Otherwise this little thing is ready to go when you are. It is an all around great camera and it will be years before I need to upgrade again!Customer Rating: Summary: WOWComment: Purshased as gift for husband, it is light and compact for the features this camera offers. He has been very pleased. This camera offers a lot for the price, is a great point and shoot camera.Customer Rating: Summary: pro/conComment: Pro: Good price for the camera. The picture quality is very good. Recovery is quick. Functions and options are plentiful. Tech support was helpful.
Con: The image stabilization doesn't seem very effective. Camera set up was a nightmare since I run a Mac. Could not get the install menu right so had lost the manual and had to order one. The absolutely worst feature of the camera, IMHO, is the lack of a view finder. Trying to focus and compose a picture in sunlight is very difficult.
Conc.: Overall it's a good camera and when I can actually shade the view screen, shoots excellent pictures. The zoom is wonderful but at full Optical needs a tripod or a very well grounded hand-held position. I do not recommend trying to shoot from a boat in rough seas or river rapids.Customer Rating: Summary: cameraComment: love this camera but get a tripod for it it is very hard to hold still when using full zoom but pic quality is awsome
