Customer Rating: Summary: very poor video quality for avchd formatComment: I tried to make avchd disk. The video quality is so poor. Pinnacle tech support does not have any solution for it. Bad quality of the software.Customer Rating: Summary: If you have the right computer, nice piece of softwareComment: I had a dual core, well Studio12/14 just didn't work on it.
I'm now using a 3mhz quadcore, lots of ram and storage. Works fine for lots of web videos and commerical videos.
When I went to Windows7 HomePre I had to reinstall, but that is the only glitch.
HD or Higher quality needs at least a quad core and 4 gig of ram.
I've used this software since 11 and 14 for me is the best "out of box"....yes their policy of dumping previous plugins is madding at times, but over all, for a $100, if you have the computer you can do commerical quality videos with this software.
Did I mention you want a powerful computer for it to work right? Also I do a clean boot and only run this program esp. when rendering.Customer Rating: Summary: What Have They Done to Studio?Comment: I've used Studio since version 9 and all the versions since. I've loved them all. This one is a disaster. The interface has been slightly changed and now capture starts a new program over the top of Studio. It's also more difficult to save titles (I still haven't found how to do that), but the worst is this: You can't play what you create! At least I can't. This is the first project I've done that really used a menu other than a start button in 14 (I did lots of those in 9, 10, 11, and 12). Well, it doesn't play on my HD-DVD player. It doesn't play on my DVD player. It barely plays on my Blu-ray, as the menu is VERY balky. In previous versions, no problem on any of them. I'm running Win7 and much more powerful programs than Studio have no problems.
So, what have they done to Studio? Is this their way of telling me I should reinstall version 12? Maybe they want me to switch to Adobe -- I don't know. All I know for sure is that they've messed up a good tool.
PS. I tried using the same AVI files to burn a DVD in Windows DVD maker, thinking maybe the problem was Win7. The DVD made in Windows DVD maker ran effortlessly on everything. In other words, it wasn't the burner and it wasn't Win7. With Studio out of the way, I could make minimalist DVDs that worked. Maybe Adobe or one of the others is the answer. Since there's no update to download and you can't burn a usable DVD in Studio, the answer isn't Pinnacle.
PS #2. Tried using the same AVI files to make a DVD in Studio 12. Worked like a charm. Runs on everything. No question, the problem is Studio 14. Apparently the render/burn engine was changed, and only certain equipment can run the DVDs. My recommendation (obviously) find a copy of 12. Whatever you do, don't get Studio 14.Customer Rating: Summary: Failure to LaunchComment: I had a simple task-take a 40mb mpg file (40 minutes long), and break it up into 4 pieces to put on YouTube. Nothing else...no fades, no titles, no effects...just divide up the damn file into 4 pieces. Studio failed at this task; apparently a 2.6ghz machine is too slow for the software.Customer Rating: Summary: Step backward from previous versionsComment: I have owned about 4 different versions of Pinnacle Studio with mixed results. I have never had stability issues, partly because I run a fairly powerful PC, and maintain the Program and Files on separate hard drives.

I love the video editing interface - without it I would have left Pinnacle a long time ago.
Pinnacle 14 commits some grave errors:
-Title editing is a step backward - the classic interface is much easier to use than the new "motion picture version"
-Does not automatically default to HD when editing HD movies - you have to go into preferences to ensure it does not degrade the imported clips
-Menus - horrid. Awkward interface, nearly impossible to use a photo or video for a custom background. Not intuitive.
Earlier versions of Roxio Creator were much easier to use in this regard.
